Babak Parviz, who has been widely credited for developing Google Glass, announced he’s moving to Amazon on his Google+ page for an undisclosed position. He confirmed the job change to CNET on Monday.
Over the weekend, Parviz updated his Google+ bio with the following information:
Having worked at companies ranging from tiny start-ups to huge corporations and universities in Europe and the US, I have found each one to be fun in its own unique way.
I founded and led a few efforts at Google (among them, Google Glass and Google Contact Lenses are public so far :) prior to moving to Amazon and work on a few other things now…
Parviz worked on another high-profile optics project during his tenure at Google, co-founding and leading Google X’s effort to build a contact lens for people with diabetes so they can easily measure their glucose levels, according to Google.
Parviz’s new role at Amazon has yet to be announced, but it’s possible that he’ll be working on Fire, the retailer’s recently revealed smartphone, which Fortune reviewed in June.
In May, Ivy Ross, a former executive at the contact manufacturer Bausch & Lomb and Art.com’s Chief Marketing Officer, took over for Parviz as head of Google Glass.
A representative from Amazon was not immediately available for comment.
